Ready-to-Assemble Cardboard Lamp Ships in its Own Shade

Ready-to-Assemble Cardboard Lamp Ships in its Own Shade: [ Filed under Lamps & Lights & in the Furnishings category ]

As if assembly were not easy enough these days, this little lighting fixture is packaged in its own finished product. The user (almost) simply unwraps (or unboxes) the shade, folds it open, inserts a bulb and plugs it in – though a few moving parts are still (unfortunately) involved.

Ah, but will this so-called Plamp work when products are frequently bumped, bruised and banged about while being transported from the factory to your home? It all depends on you particular you are – consider them beauty marks, part of the product’s history, and you may find it works out just fine. Some foreign postage stamps and marks, packing labels, etc… could add character.

A bit of decorative finery is also hidden beneath the folds, largely protected during shipping and revealed only when unfolded. The exception is one end cap, which holds everything in place until removed. Floral and abstract patterns are possible, and help filter (and diffuse) light – though blank would work as well.

Setting the design itself aside for the moment, aspiring industrial, graphic and interior designers could take a lesson or two from the photos presented here as well – they appeal to a range of tastes but also show the versatility of the object in question, suitable for everything from colorful modern living rooms to antiquated study spaces.
